Ashley Wilburn, a native of Hagerstown, Maryland, proudly hails from North Hagerstown High School, where she completed her secondary education. With a deep passion for family law, Ashley's present legal practice is focused on a variety of aspects of family matters. She concentrates a large portion of her practice in divorce cases, alimony disputes, marital property distribution child custody battles, child support arrangements, postnuptial and prenuptial agreements, enforcement and post-divorce issues such as step-parent or private party adoptions, as well as concerns regarding child welfare. Ashley has been a mediator appointed by the court since the year 2019. She assists parties in resolving their disputes without the necessity of litigation or court involvement. Ashley mediates private matters as well as court-appointed mediations for people who want to avoid the court process and litigation.
After completing her undergraduate studies at Loyola University of Maryland, where she received dual bachelor's degrees in History and Political Science, Ashley pursued her legal education at Western New England University School of Law. She graduated in 2013 and was ranked among the top 10 students in her class. During her time at law school, Ashley served as a Note Editor for the esteemed Western New England Law Review, showcasing her commitment to legal scholarship and research.
Ashley began her clerkship after completing her law degree. She worked for renowned jurists from Connecticut and Maryland. She was fortunate to serve as a law assistant to the Honorable Richard A. Robinson at the Connecticut Appellate Court and the Honorable Elliott D. Prescott. Then, in 2014 she returned to her hometown of Hagerstown to serve as a clerk for the Honorable M. In 2015, Ashley joined the esteemed law firm of Poole & Kane, P.A. as an associate attorney. Her main responsibilities at the firm was representing the Washington County Department of Social Services in matters pertaining to child welfare. Through her dedication, Ashley played a vital role in helping children who were victims of abuse or neglect at the by their parents or caregivers. Her commitment to social injustice transcended her legal career when she was an active member of the Washington County Human Trafficking Task Force. She was a tireless worker to educate the public about human trafficking within the tri-state region.
In 2017, she was a founding partner at Kane, Wilburn & Stone, P.A., and developed her expertise in family law, including divorce, custody and child maintenance as well as guardianships – as well as financial and estate planning - wills, trusts, powers of attorney, advance directives/healthcare proxies and mediation.
Ashley established Wilburn Law Office, LLC 2023 with the commitment to provide an individual approach to every client's needs.
